John started his career in the mental health field in Florida forty years ago. He worked in Virginia from 1987 to 2014 as a MH/SUD provider, administrator, and trainer in both the public sector (Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, Fairfax County Community Services Board, Loudoun County Community Services Board) and private sector in primary care, hospital, and behavioral health private practice settings. Since 2014 he has worked in federal contracting as a subject matter expert and project director for several SAMHSA and HRSA behavioral health initiatives. Currently, he is the project director for HRSA’s RCORP- TA program, which provides training and technical assistance to 376 grantees in 49 states who are addressing barriers to services for SUD/OUD in rural communities.
